Women, Land & Legacy to Host Winter Seed Sowing Workshop!
January 15 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Local women are invited to join Women, Land & Legacy of Southwest Iowa to learn about winter seed sowing. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 6 p.m. at the Lakin Community Center in Malvern.
According to Annette O’Brien, Mills County Master Gardener and workshop leader, winter seed sowing is the process of starting seeds in plastic containers outside in late autumn or winter. This space-saving technique results in robust plants that are already acclimated to the outdoors when it’s time to transplant.
Attendees will have the opportunity to assemble a miniature greenhouse to take home. Seeds, soil, and milk jugs will be provided. Attendees are also welcome to bring additional containers (milk jugs, rotisserie containers, juice containers, plastic storage boxes, salad clamshells, etc.) and seeds of their choosing for additional greenhouses.
The evening will also include a meal catered by Classic Café and plenty of opportunity to connect with local women with similar interests.
The cost to attend is $10, payable at the door. Registration is available online at https://iastate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3kPSlSOm6jV6Ci2 and is required by Wednesday, Jan. 8.
Those interested are also welcome to register and/or request special accommodations by calling one of the local Iowa State University Extension & Outreach offices. Please mention any dietary restrictions when you call.
